Political News... Run!

Hey everyone,

So, the main reason this blog was started was because of my JRN 105 class and all of these post have been assignments for said class. That being said I have tried my hardest to keep with the main theme that I want to continue after this class is over. Happy theatre related things and my own growth in my craft.

But...

In my class I have to do a piece of political news on the internet that involves social media. So, if you don't like hearing others opinion please don't read the rest of this. I try to keep this out but it's in the name of school!

Right HERE is the article I'll be talking about.

So as people know, Donald Trump is kind of an awful person. The only reason I say this is because he has publicly made fun of disabled reports, made sexist jokes to other reporters faces, and wants to get rid of certain minority groups so that America can "be great again".

Many people I know--myself included--are planning on moving if he gets elected into office.

And it's not just the Democrats and young more anti-bully generation that are upset with all that he is claiming to do! Mitt Romney who ran for president for the Republican party back in 2012 made a public speech about why Trump is wrong and should not be what has a chance to run for the white house. Romney didn't even say that he supported anyone else in the race, he simply said not Trump.

This took over the internet by storm with 38 tweets per second on Twitter many in support of Romney. If you go and read the article linked above, you'll see that Trump came back with some very vulgar tweets.

!!MY PERSONAL OPINION!!

I hate Trump. I don't like saying that I hate people that I don't personally know, but... I really don't like the guy. I've heard both sides of the argument but for me, it really comes down to how his persona comes across. He just reminds me of that kid back in elementary and middle school that when you didn't agree with him, he would just scream it at you louder until you finally caved in and said sure just so he would shut up.

Imagine if that kid grew up, got a small loan of $1 million and wanted to rule the country.

...

That's not what I want. That's not what I want for my nieces and nephews, I don't want that for my unborn children, heck I don't even want that for the dirt that happens to resided in this country!

The honest way that I pick the candidates is who I would like to have a drink with. In my profession, that's how a lot of things happen so to me it only makes sense. I don't want to sit down and have a drink with Trump, I hate being in the same hemisphere as him honestly.

Who would I like to have a drink with?

Bernie Sanders.

A lot of people say "Oh that's cause he promises free college" and "but he doesn't know how to run a government". Do you know how to run a government? Honestly, do you?

Sanders gets my vote because he is who I feel would make America great again. Not only does he want to give free college to people, but there are other things that he wants to do as well. I couldn't tell you what cause as a broke college student with parents who get screwed out of a decent pay check every month because they're farmers--and that's a rant for another day--the free college is the most important thing to me. Shelling out $20,000 dollars a year for 4-5 years to get a fancy paper that barely means that I can flip burgers makes me wish that it was free. I know people that work so hard to keep their grades up that they end up in a hospital just so they can keep scholarships. Not only do they need the grades, but many of them also work jobs to help pay the bill. But that doesn't matter because they still will have to pay in the form of student loans years after they're done. With that in mind, I would much rather have a slight increase in my taxes so that not only me, but generations to come don't have to go through all that stress.

With that, I leave you with this...

You don't have to agree with me, all I ask that if you are 18 or older to please, please, PLEASE vote. Every vote matters.

XOXO

Oscar News!

Hello everyone!

So keeping in the fashion of the theatre on this blog we have to talk about one of the biggest things in entertainment that happened this week...

THE OSCARS!

Now we're not going to just talk about the long awaited win that Leonardo DiCaprio had, though we will talk a little about the speech that he gave. We're going to just touch briefly about what was written in this article by the Nytime.

One of the things that almost everyone that hasn't been living under a rock for the beginning of 2016 is that this has been the second year in a row that the Oscars was "white washed". Many people say that it's because The Academy that chose them are old white men that need to get with the times, others because there just weren't any good actors that were of color. I personally have no opinion on the subject because I am friends with many the outspoken on everything persons and heard both sides. And after that "pleasure" I've learned not to have an opinion. It ruins lives.

What I will talk about though is how Chris Rock stole the entire show! Between his amazing opening monologue and commentary that left no stone un-turned  he was fantastic from beginning to end.

I know I said I wasn't just going to talk about Leo DiCaprio, but I might spend a little more time on him. Everyone has been waiting for years and years for him to win this award, but I have to admit that I was waiting for his speech. He did it with so much grace, no bitterness about how long it took for this to happen, but instead thanked everyone present and past. Then, used the last half of his speech to talk about the very real problem of climate change. The fact that he used this special, long awaited time to talk about the disgusting fact that the film crew and him having to go to one of the southern tips of the world just to find snow shows how mature he has become.

Adventures in Stage Makeup Class! PART 1: Old Age

Hello again!

I promise I'll get the hang of posting on here regularly, but for now, oh well!

So in the world of theatre it's best for you to be a jack of all trades. And in prep for that, the theatre department here makes everyone take a little bit of everything. One of the favorites being a stage makeup class. We learn how to do lots of cool things with make up, and one of the coolest is doing old age effects. So today, I'll be telling you how I turned myself into an old lady!

To be clear, this isn't a how to post. I will though tell you a little about the process of how we did it and show some pictures.

So after our professor talked about how we'd do it, she told us all to pick a person from a play and make a makeup map for them for class the next day.

A makeup map is a map of your face that you use to plan on how to go about doing your makeup. I would post a pic, but I couldn't find any good ones online and I've had to hand in my old ones for my assignments.

The next day we all started on making ourselves old. Now in order to make wrinkles (the key look of looking old), you have to use light and dark colors. The dark colors on the bottom for shadow effects, and the light colors for the highlights. It sounds weird but it actually does give you the wrinkle look.

This is a picture of how I look normally --->

Side note: This pic was taken while I was helping a friend with one of her movie projects. It was super fun and they let me have a head set! Much excrement.

And this is me after the magic of makeup

                                                   Scary huh?

As you can see, the only colors used were a dark brown a and pale white color.

It's really weird when you think that even though this is a character, that this could be what you look like in 50ish years.

But I think I'm like a fine wine, I get better with age.

FUN FACT! When I showed my mom these pictures, she gasped. Then promptly said "I thought you said you were supposed to look old! Not like a monster!"

...

Thanks Mom.
Thanks.

So that was me turning into an old lady. I'll make sure to post about more fun adventures in makeup and theatre!

Hello everyone!

Like I said in my first post, this blog is to document my journey in the theatre business. So, I would like to share some pictures from my last project with you.

The latest project I worked on was as a Sound Board Op for a play called Romantic Fools by Rich Orloff. For those of you that don't know what a Sound Board Op is, it's a fancy way of saying that I pressed a button so that music would play during the show. Both of these pictures are from our load in day. Load in day is when all the actors and other helpers come and move all their stuff into the theatre space that they're using. So from 8am until about 10pm on a Sunday we hung curtains, set up and programmed lights, made final costume pieces, and had a great time. The top picture is of most of the space we had to play in, and the picture below is of me holding a ladder while some of the actors goofed off in the background.

The play itself ran with little to no hitches! Everyone had fun and celebrated and cried that it was over on closing night. Even though I was up above the stage in the sound and light booth, I really remembered why I chose theatre to be my life. Even though you might not be on the stage in front of people doesn't mean you're any less important than anyone else. Everyone is a big happy family. When I first started college, I was going to do international business and just keep theatre as a hobby. The business department felt very cold and unfriendly as a whole. Not everyone knew everyone unless you lived in the business dorms. When I did anything with the theatre though, everyone was so welcoming and opened! And things that other people saw as quirks of mine were actually pretty common place. It really felt like coming home. Plus, there are only forty signed majors so everyone really does know everyone in the department.

That's all for now, but I'll be back soon with more adventures soon

XOXO
