Like I said in my first post, this blog is to document my journey in the theatre business. So, I would like to share some pictures from my last project with you.
The latest project I worked on was as a Sound Board Op for a play called Romantic Fools by Rich Orloff. For those of you that don't know what a Sound Board Op is, it's a fancy way of saying that I pressed a button so that music would play during the show. Both of these pictures are from our load in day. Load in day is when all the actors and other helpers come and move all their stuff into the theatre space that they're using. So from 8am until about 10pm on a Sunday we hung curtains, set up and programmed lights, made final costume pieces, and had a great time. The top picture is of most of the space we had to play in, and the picture below is of me holding a ladder while some of the actors goofed off in the background.
The play itself ran with little to no hitches! Everyone had fun and celebrated and cried that it was over on closing night. Even though I was up above the stage in the sound and light booth, I really remembered why I chose theatre to be my life. Even though you might not be on the stage in front of people doesn't mean you're any less important than anyone else. Everyone is a big happy family. When I first started college, I was going to do international business and just keep theatre as a hobby. The business department felt very cold and unfriendly as a whole. Not everyone knew everyone unless you lived in the business dorms. When I did anything with the theatre though, everyone was so welcoming and opened! And things that other people saw as quirks of mine were actually pretty common place. It really felt like coming home. Plus, there are only forty signed majors so everyone really does know everyone in the department.
That's all for now, but I'll be back soon with more adventures soon
XOXO
Hope
Hey Hope, this is a very interesting story to me. I am also for a small farming town in the middle of nowhere and I to want to get into film, more on the production side though. I remember running the sound board in high school and how much I really liked it. I hope (really no pun intended) that everything work outs for you.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! Can't wait to read more :) Good luck to you!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea for a blog Hope! Hope to see more updates throughout the course.
ReplyDeleteI think It is so cool that you work in the theater business! You basically get paid to see shows!!!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I was a drama keep for 2 years back when I was in high school and loved it! A few of my close friends went to university with me and were in the theater department so I hung around there quite a bit as well. You're always sure to meet fun/friendly/interesting people in the theater department, and I'm glad you found individuals you connect with, as well as something that you love to do!
